With relatively few exceptions, in the past, people in America sought to hide their sinful actions. Porn magazines in stores, while available, were hidden from public view. Homosexuality was considered taboo, and those who participated did so in the shadows. Red light districts were relegated to some dingy corner of town that “respectable” people didn’t frequent (or did so under cover).
Not so any more. Porn is readily accessible on the internet to anyone who wants it. Homosexuality is now celebrated, and in many cases even privileged, in virtually every institution in society. Prostitution, in many places, is almost completely out in the open.
But there is another practice that is also coming out of the shadows – Satan is now openly being promoted, and even celebrated.
Perhaps you are familiar with the after school Satan clubs that are being established in many public schools. So far, there are not too many of them, but when they do pop up, they garner a LOT of publicity. While they have not gained much in popularity up until now, as the stigma associated with them gradually wanes (which it undoubtedly will), you can certainly expect more of them in the future.
Or have you heard of the Satanic Temple getting ready to put on its largest gathering in history coming up in April of this year? It will be held in Boston and is being dubbed SatanCon 2023.
But it got even more blatant at the Grammy’s this year. One of the show’s featured singers was “nonbinary” singer Sam Smith who sang a duet with “transgender” artist Kim Petras. The song they sang was “Unholy” – a song about a man that is cheating on his wife. In the Grammy show performance, Smith is dressed as Satan in all red with devil horns, while Petras twirked in a cage with scantily dressed dancers dressed as demons gyrating all around. The backdrop screen featured flames simulating hell.
The performance was dark and degenerate. Yet this is now completely mainstream. It is on prime time TV, in our schools, supported by our government, and promoted by many businesses. What used to be relegated to the shadows is now totally accepted by the major institutions that dominate American society.
I honestly don’t believe this is yet a majority opinion in America. However, it is being pushed so hard by these mainstream institutions that it seems like it represents the majority. People who want to push this evil on society have worked their way into the leadership of these various institutions and have been able to steamroll their opponents.
There is a reason why Christians need to aggressively fight back. We need to still maintain a Christlike attitude, but we do need to push back. We need to do it because it is creating an atmosphere in society that is harming our children, promoting mental illness, advancing totalitarian governance while eroding our freedom to practice our faith, and, most significantly, leading people away from God. This is what happens when evil takes over.
At the same time, working to change the direction of society is not an end in itself. Our efforts to do that should be a byproduct of our actual purpose, not the purpose itself. Our purpose should always be to serve God, and, in the words of the Lord’s Prayer, work so that His “will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
In its essence, the evil we see dominating society these days is the result of Christians being outworked by people who believe in evil. That should never be!
Ultimately this is a spiritual problem before it is a societal problem. Those who are promoting evil are promoting their religious faith. They are shouting it in their megaphones and promoting it in their work and lifestyles. If we want to turn it around, we Christians are going to have to do the same with our faith. Every Christian needs to get up to speed on how to share their faith, and how to defend their beliefs. It can no longer be thought of as something left to “the professionals.” Every Christian needs to get their head in the fight.
