An Atheist group at Dartmouth College is planning an event aimed at “skewering the reputation of Mother Teresa.” They plan to screen an anti-Mother Teresa film and discuss an anti-Mother Teresa book written by the well known atheist Christopher Hitchens. From all I can find out, there is not really any reason for doing this except that the Atheists Humanists Agnostics (AHA) club at the school hates everything Christian and see this as an opportunity to bash Christians.
It is, indeed, a sad day when those who have devoted their lives to doing good are vilified for it. It is also important to realize that this is not limited to bashing Mother Teresa. We live in a time when it is open season on all Christians.
The truth is, while these militant Atheists believe their anti-God stand is based on objective science, it is not. Atheism is a faith position which has no rational basis whatsoever. As Christians, dealing with people like those in the AHA who espouse their beliefs using hate and vitriol can be quite a challenge. That being said, it is important to be able to stand our ground. But we must do this not simply by asserting blindly our belief in God. Rather, we must take the further step of showing that their belief in God’s non-existence is itself a religious position. Then, we must make them defend that.
Christians are called by God to be witnesses to a lost world. A grasp of the concept of worldview is the key to our ability to do it. Please feel free to take advantage of the many resources on the MarketFaith Ministries website (www.marketfaith.org) to enhance your ability in this arena.
